Assessment of asthma management in adult patients: A retrospective case-note review in a general practice

This study aimed to assessasthma management in a sample of adult patients general practice. A retrospective case-note review was conducted,involving 27 asthma practice inEngland. The Asthma Quality Improvement tool informed the development thedata collection tool. data were analysed statistically by theresearcher using frequencies testing, descriptive statistics.Twenty-one participants out reviewed last12-months their healthcare practitioner. All components an asthmareview assessed and recorded except inhaler technique for 11participants 66.7% classed as having poorly-controlled symptoms.Although small size affected generalisability ofthe findings, reviewing medical records each participant allowed highlight issues with sample. studyfound that care requires improvement highlightedareas could be targeted enhance care. beenhanced focusing on increasing patients’ engagement annualasthma reviews, enhancing provision action plan followinga consistent approach inhaler-technique check recording components. Finally, conducting multiple checks patients’medical might help identify who need supportthem asthma.
